The Depth of Comment-Based Online Discussion in Canada

“This Anonymous person is a total whack-job.”

“Oscar say: We have no Can Con requirement to play Canadian movies at Canadian movie theatres, jackass!”

Now the the U.S. has completed its military occupation of Haiti, the CBC will go back to reporting feel-good propaganda stories while Haiti is cannibalized by foreign powers and corporations.

“Greedy french bastards! Stay at home then. Take a course in human compassion and what the word volunteer means. Shame on you all.”

” This is a result of too many rights! I am appauled at the amount of rights Canadians have..The Canadian Charter of Rights have become a joke. Instead of rights, it should be renamed annoyances.”

“anyone crossing the road at an intersection or not deserves what they get! Its called “look both ways before crossing the street!”

“*sigh*”

Yep. All of the above from the comments of major Canadian newspapers today. Didn’t take long to find.

This is not the way Canada will regain vision or draw people into public discourse, the political system, or leadership roles. Want to be part of something that will? Become a founding Contributor at The First Drop. We’re looking for about 20 good writers by February 7th to kick start this community. Check out the gig, or just jump in and apply! Finally, anyone you know who would be great for this? Please let them or us know.

Here’s to taking back online discussion in Canada,

Brendan
