The Hail Mary Approach to Start-ups

I tend to think a lot about oppotunities to start things.

Staying the Course is boring.

I don’t yet have the resources for the Big Company Bet.

I try not to be Just Dumb.

But I love The Hail Mary. The Hail Mary is 3 Bucks for Brendan. It’s The First Drop. It’s most of the new mobile app development. It’s a new wave of web development. It’s how the little guys can have a shot at the big guys, if they keep the resource investment in check and are willing to endure a few misses. As web and app development costs drop, systems become more complex, and viral spread becomes more important, this approach will become even more common. Just don’t wait for the last down.

I knew, just KNEW, that despite my best efforts at nurture, nature would not be denied, and that somewhere back there you had a recessive Catholic gene. There it is. You’ve avoided the rigid belief systems and mindless rituals of the Catholic Church and have embraced academia (…ahem) instead. So, Hail Mary, full of grace…
