Back to Blogotheque for Authentic Music

by Brendan on December 30, 2009

I was wondering when I’d get back into the groove on Cashewman. It’s the first break I’ve taken in almost a year. A break was needed. And a break was had. More on that later.

But what compelled me to post today? This Blogoteque edition of Phoenix’s Litzomania:

I’ve long loved Blogotheque. I wrote awhile ago about authenticity. I still haven’t figured authenticity out. But I know it when I see it. And what blogotheque does, as they film simple versions of musicians singing their songs in public, is reveal purely authentic music. No hiding behind stage shows, music videos or PR. Pure artistry.

Phoenix was big for me this year. I remember listening to this song on my headphones as I took the photos for this post, riding in a bus along Italian coastline.

Cheers,

B

Ditto on Blogotheque. That’s actually how I learned about Bon Iver, one of the discoveries of the year for me. I love that Blogotheque is French, and that the bands are really really good, but that I often haven’t heard of them yet. Like Phoenix, for example. This is my first conscious listen of them. So thanks for that.
