My namesake, George Baker. A lazy Sunday means time to bring back another classic. If you’ve seen Gran Tourino, and enjoyed Eastwood’s character, you’ll understand George. Minus the racism…
Grandpa’s come up recently in conversation a couple times. We were talking about proposals. I remembered the time I asked Grandpa how he proposed to Granny.
“Uggggnnnhhh. Hmmmph. None of your damn business! gmmmmg.”
Everybody in the room cracked up.

That sort of thing is definitely on a ‘need to know’ basis, B. I suspect (but here my recollection fails me) she proposed to him!! Or maybe suggested it, anyway. Anyhooooo….64 years later it wouldn’t be surprising if neither could remember. And you’re right; it’s a classic. Why not post, alongside, his Senegalese doppleganger? I always liked the universality inherent in those pictures together.

Another funny bit to that story is that when we finally did get answers out of both granny and grandpa, they completely different stories! Granny’s had something to do with a bus stop and three proposals, and grandpa’s was set about 4 years earlier.
Love, and thanks for the funny memory.

Yeah of course your grandpa pics are classic, but I’m here to spout off about neo-liberal corporate conniving.

Raff: so what’s your message, that Grandpa is part of some neo-liberal corporate conspiracy? Ummmm, don’t think so. I remember once, in about 1971 or ‘72 watching them burn the Bank of America at Berkley, on TV. Grandpa came into the room and I thought I was going to get an earful about ‘damned hippies’, but what he said was ‘yeah, I can understand them doing that’, or words to that effect. Surprised the hell out of me. No corporate conspiracies here, methinks.

Doug: No, I know Grandpa’s far from corporate, or neo-liberal. I was referring to my input on cashewman in the past couple of days. The problem was that I couldn’t rant at this particular post.
