I’m getting a couple suits made here in Addis. I know how much a made-to-measure suit costs in Canada, and I’ll likely use a couple of new suits heavily next year at school. Given that the costs are not so great here, why not try? The challenge is quality and style: I’m pretty picky when it comes to my dress clothes.Very picky, actually.
I love Bond’s Tom Ford suit in the latest Bond flick. I have actually paused the film a few times to admire it. So I’ve used it as a model, and broke out the laptop with photos when I went into Nazrawi Garment & Trade PLC Saturday. He seemed to be confident. I’ll go back tomorrow to check out the first stage.

Will it work? Will I be able to score a 5000 dollar Tom Ford knockoff for a hundred bucks? Maybe even 1/10th of the suit for 1/50th of the price? If my tailor can do good work, and doesn’t mind me being nitpicky, then maybe.
I remember Strombo saying, during a Q&A after a show taping, that “quality is the next revolution.” I would love to think so, and am personally shifting to getting fewer, better (and hopefully locally) made goods instead of more mass produced crap. So I don’t have a problem with paying for good quality. Just not exorbitant names. If Nazwari can do a half decent job, then we’re both winners here.

(By the way, I deserately wanted to get the suit made at the James Bond Tailors, pictured above, which is above 30 seconds from our office. But when I took a pair of pants in to be altered, and the two legs came back 2 cm different in length, I started to have my doubts. Confirmed when the reply was ‘well, they’re pretty close!’)

Brendan:
I have a new suit made by a tailor with the address “007″…Not “James Bond” but kinda close. I’m pretty happy with it so let me know if you want to see a finished product. (It cost something like 750 Birr). The tailor shop is across from the palace south of Arat Kilo.

With a gun like that, and a babe like that, and a suit like that, one is bound to ask “…is that a gun in your pocket, or are you just….”

Once you have your James Bond suit, you should try getting it cleaned at Snow White Laundry (across the street)…or maybe not.
