Working phones and colour-changing shoes: 10 reasons why yesterday was a good day.

Last night I arrived home, and realized that I’d written a pretty depressing post. So I decided to compile a list of things that went well yesterday. In no particular order:

1) I have not yet figured out how to get laundry done consistently in my new place, and it’s been a couple weeks since I last did a full load. But I did manage to hand rinse a clean shirt for tomorrow. Bonus!

2) I saw Jon Naugle from EnterpriseWorks, for the first time in several years, sharing pizza and beers. He was a guiding force for me in Senegal, as we launched EWW’s potable water project in the Casamance (blogs posts on Cashewman are there, but waaaay back!).

3) Jon has also worked tirelessly with Arjen of Practica and Silvia Gaya of UNICEF to promote manual drilling as a low cost water access solution in Africa. I’m awed by the work these three have done (and the headway they’re finally making), and happy to work them during this conference to help them push this even harder. I’m proud to be involved with organizations that have this kind of conviction.

4) I have a nice open bottle of Cotes du Rhone that a friend brought last week. I may still not yet have glasses, but that’s a relatively minor issue.

5) The new K-os is still gold. 4 3 2 1…

6) I got a new pair of Adidas in Holland. My last pair had been around a long time, and taken a beating. On these new ones I can change the colour of the stripes. It’s like being eleven again. And for me eleven was the best age. In terms of fort potential anyway.

7) There’s power right now. And my laptop charger is currently working. So I can write this post. That’s probably a good thing.

8 ) I bought two pairs of new socks from a guy on the street for about a buck each. I’m not sure if I got ripped off, but putting on a new pair of street socks feels wonderful. And now that laundry issue can wait another day!

9) I have 9 crushed chocolates left from Brussels. Actually, at the beginning of this post I did. Now I have only two left, and they look gross. But the 7 were super tasty.

10) My phone worked for over 5 hours yesterday, allowing me to organize my day today. Bonus!

So I guess on the balance of this post, yesterday was a pretty good day! It’s tough to disagree with messy chocolates and colour-changing shoes…

Peace,

B
